WhatsApp suddenly closed more than 74 lakh accounts in India
New Delhi: Meta-owned WhatsApp banned a record more than 74 lakh bad accounts in India in the month of August. The company said in its monthly compliance report that in August it banned 74,20,748 accounts. Of these, about 35,06,905 accounts were banned suo motu without any complaint. The popular messaging platform, which has over 50 crore users in the country, received a record 14,767 complaint reports in August, and took action on 71. According to the company, the report includes details of complaints received from users and actions taken by WhatsApp, as well as WhatsApp’s own preventive actions to deal with abuse on its platform. Additionally, the company received only one order from the country’s Complaints Appellate Committee in August, which it complied with.
