Government said, no GST on Ganga water

New Delhi: As the festival season is near, the Finance Ministry on Thursday made it clear that Ganga water will be free from GST. A clarification issued by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) informed that Gangajal (water of the holy river Ganga) and puja materials (items) have been exempted from GST.

Following some media reports, the need for clarification was felt regarding implementation of GST on Ganga water, CBIC said in a post on Twitter.

It said, “GST on puja materials was discussed in detail in the 14th and 15th meeting of the GST Council held in 2017 and it was decided to keep them in the exemption list. Therefore, all these items have been exempted since the introduction of GST.”
