Rapid restrictive action is being taken to maintain law and order during elections.
Raipur. Chief Electoral Officer Reena Babasaheb Kangale has issued necessary guidelines to the District Election Officers and Superintendents of Police of all the districts regarding taking necessary preventive action to maintain law and order in the Assembly Elections-2023.
He has directed that with the announcement of elections by the Election Commission of India, necessary restrictive actions should be ensured to maintain law and order in the districts. It is mentioned in the instructions that effective action should be taken by exposing illegal liquor distilleries and factories. Also, the Chief Electoral Officer should take necessary action to confiscate illegal arms/weapons, issue a prohibitory order to ban the possession of licensed weapons under section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, and review the license holders of weapons and explosives. Instructions have been given to ban the issuance of new arms licenses after the announcement of elections.
With the implementation of the Code of Conduct in the state, preventive action is being taken by the District Election Officers as per the instructions of Chief Electoral Officer Mrs. Reena Baba Saheb Kangale. There is a ban on possessing licensed weapons under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Out of 12495 licensed weapons, 8807 have been deposited. 3 have been confiscated and 10 have been cancelled. 1229 cases have been made under the Arms Act and 1284 weapons have been seized under it. 54 people have been displaced. Under MV Act, action worth Rs 18 crore 49 lakh 4 thousand 157 has been taken in 3 lakh 64 thousand 86 cases. Under restrictive action, action has been taken against 1 lakh 81 thousand 527 persons in 1 lakh 34 thousand 206 cases and 1 lakh 5 thousand 863 bound overs have been done. 19 thousand 891 cases have been registered in excise matters, in which 1 lakh 29 thousand 48 liters of liquor worth Rs 5 crore 28 lakh 85 thousand 758 has been seized.
