Emily Blunt criticized for calling waitress ‘too big’
Washington: Actress Emily Blunt is once again under fire for a resurfaced interview in which she called a Chili’s waitress “huge,” according to Page Six. The 40-year-old actress was a guest on the UK’s ‘The Jonathan Ross Show’ in September 2012 when she decided to share a story about dining at one of the chain restaurant’s locations in Louisiana while shooting the movie ‘Looper’ Did. “The girl serving me was huge,” Blunt told the namesake host. “I think he got a free meal at Chili’s.”
According to Page Six, although Ross, 62, said “there’s nothing wrong with that,” he previously quipped that “when you go to Chiles, you can see how many of [his] American friends are Why is it? ” Mimicking the server’s Southern drawl, Blunt said the woman asked her, “Has anyone ever told you that you look like Emily Blunt?” “And I said, ‘I heard that, yes,'” she recalled responding, after which the employee asked, “Are you Emily Blunt?”
The ‘Devil Wears Prada’ actor claimed that after the woman verified her identity, the woman said, “What are you all doing here?” with enthusiasm. The 2012 interview clip has resurfaced on the Internet, and many Twitter (now ex) users are upset with Emily Blunt. She has been labeled “fatphobic,” meaning she made fun of or disrespected someone because of their size.
“Emily Blunt being fatally fatphobic was not in my 2023 bingo card, but here we are,” one critic posted along with a clip of the moment.
“Take him off my crush list.???,” “JFC Emily, we were rooting for you too. SMH,” “Why did he describe her that way? This was so unnecessary” and “It’s so easy to tell when people honestly believe that waitstaff are beneath them/lesser members of society” were some of the comments that followed. The ‘Oppenheimer’ star has since released a statement, telling Page Six that her “jaw was on the floor” when she saw a video of her appearance. “I’m shocked that I would say something so insensitive, hurtful and unrelated to the story I was trying to tell on a talk show,” Blunt lamented, as Page Six reports.
