CBIC destroys drugs and contraband worth crores to promote public welfare

Guwahati: In a significant operation under Special Drive 3.0 of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, Guwahati Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) and Customs Zone, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) recently carried out the destruction Gave. 9077.24 kg ganja whose estimated value is Rs. 14.44 crores. GM Kamei, Chief Commissioner of Customs (Preventive) for North Eastern Region (NER) in Shillong, Shri. Mahfuzur Rahman, Principal Additional Director General (ADG), Directorate General of Human Resource Development (HRD), Shri. Rajiv Yadav and Regional Officer of State Pollution Control Board, Shri. Debashish Day. His presence emphasized the seriousness and importance of this operation. This incident is not an isolated incident but is part of the ongoing commitment by Guwahati Customs to combat illegal activities. In the last financial year 2022-23, a similar operation took place on June 8, 2022, in which 7472.386 kg of ganja, worth Rs. There was a loss of Rs 7.72 crore. Additionally, foreign origin cigarettes were destroyed on March 29, 2023, with 1.78 crore sticks worth Rs. Rs 30.23 crore was disposed of along with other goods seized by Customs, which included items like black pepper, dried dates and anti-mosquito coils. The current destruction efforts are led by CBIC as part of Special Operation 3.0, a comprehensive initiative dedicated to efficiently managing and disposing of seized goods. The primary objective is to enhance public welfare and overall well-being of the nation, ensure cleanliness of the environment and free up valuable office space. These initiatives not only serve the immediate objective of eliminating illicit substances from circulation, but also contribute to the broader goal of creating a drug-free nation, while protecting the welfare of its citizens. Destruction of drugs and contraband under Special Operation 3.0 is an important step towards promoting a safer, cleaner and more prosperous nation, promoting public welfare and protecting the health and well-being of the population.
