35 people killed in collision between multiple vehicles in Egypt
Cairo: At least 35 people were killed and 53 others were injured in a multi-vehicle collision in Egypt’s Behera province on Saturday. Government media gave this information.
A safety investigation revealed that the accident was caused by an oil leak from a car on the Cairo-Alexandria desert road near Behera, causing several vehicles to collide with each other, Ahram newspaper reported.
According to the report of Xinhua news agency, several vehicles caught fire in the accident. The dead and injured have been shifted to hospitals in nearby cities.
The report said a criminal investigation into the tragedy has been ordered.
Thousands of people lose their lives every year in road accidents in Egypt as a result of speeding, poor maintenance of roads and lax enforcement of traffic laws.
Over the past few years, Egypt has upgraded its road network to reduce traffic accidents.
