Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government will provide free kitchen cylinders to 1,75,04,385 beneficiaries of Ujjwala Yojana during Diwali. The proposal was approved in the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said it was decided to give one cylinder free each to the beneficiaries of Ujjwala Yojana on Holi and Diwali. The beneficiary will first have to get a 14.2 kg cylinder refilled at the prevailing consumer rate. After five days, the amount of the cylinder will be transferred to the consumer’s Aadhaar-certified bank account by the oil companies. This facility will be available only on one connection of Ujjwala Yojana. This will place a financial burden of Rs 2,312 crore on the state government.
He said that 17.5 million families would get free cylinders on Diwali to get relief on the festival. LPG cylinders will be distributed to women beneficiaries of Ujjwala scheme between October to December and January to March-2023.
