HC to hear fresh bail plea in Delhi riots conspiracy case in January 2024
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has said it will again hear the bail pleas of several accused, including Sharjeel Imam and Khalid Saifi, in the major Delhi riots conspiracy case.
The court’s decision comes after Justice Siddharth Mridul, who had reserved judgment in at least three bail pleas, was elevated as Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court.
A division bench of Justice Suresh Kumar Kait and Justice Shailender Kaur will begin hearing the appeals in January 2024.
The accused persons including Sharjeel Imam, Khalid Saifi, Gulfisha Fatima, Meeran Haider, Shadab Ahmed, Athar Khan, Shifa Ur Rehman and Salim Khan have filed the bail plea.
The accused in the case include Tahir Hussain, Umar Khalid, Khalid Saifi, Ishrat Jahan, Meeran Haider, Gulfisha Fatima, Shifa-ur-Rehman, Asif Iqbal Tanha, Shadab Ahmed, Taslim Ahmed, Salim Malik and others.
The bench will also hear the appeal of Delhi Police to cancel the bail given to accused Ishrat Jahan. Earlier, in October last year, a special bench headed by Justice Mridul had refused to grant bail to accused Umar Khalid in this case.
