Gold biscuits worth more than Rs 4 crore found in truck
Kolkata. The Border Security Force (BSF) deployed on the India-Bangladesh border adjacent to West Bengal has foiled a major gold smuggling operation. BSF South Bengal Chief Liaison Officer and DIG AK Arya gave information about this.
He told that a day ago, BSF soldiers had received concrete information about gold smuggling near Petrapole border post of North 24 Parganas. After this, BSF soldiers stopped a suspicious truck and searched it and found 60 gold biscuits hidden in a special place inside the cabin. It was wrapped in white transparent tape. The weight of gold is 6998.580 grams and the price is estimated to be around Rs 4 crore 32 lakh 86 thousand. The truck driver has been arrested, who has been identified as 23-year-old Suraj Mag. He is a resident of Bangaon police station area of North 24 Parganas.
The accused told during interrogation that he usually used the truck for smuggling. He travels to Bangladesh through land transport. A smuggler named Mohammad Mamun from Bangladesh had lured him to smuggle gold and promised to give him Rs 10,000. The gold was to be handed over to another smuggler, Ajgar Shaikh, resident of Petrapole, North 24 Parganas.
The accused has been handed over to the Customs Department Kolkata along with the gold for further legal action. The search for related smugglers has been intensified on his trail.
