Man arrested for possessing pistol and live cartridges
Mumbai: MIDC Police has arrested a person for possessing weapons. Police have recovered a pistol and five live cartridges from the accused. The accused was identified as Abdul Sheikh (42) of Jogeshwari East. The arrest took place on Wednesday.
According to the police, Police Inspector Yash Palve of MIDC police station received information from a reliable source that a person would bring weapons in the jurisdiction of Nirmal Nagar. Acting on this information, the police laid a trap near Poonam Nagar, BMC School, Andheri East and arrested the accused at around 1.55 pm.
Police seized 5 live cartridges
Upon inspection, the police found an unlicensed pistol and five live cartridges from him. During investigation, it was revealed that his name is Abdul Shaikh (42) and there are 10 cases registered against him in various police stations. The police registered a case against him under Section 135 (disobedience to order) of the Maharashtra Police Act as well as Sections 3 (possession of firearms), and 25 (carrying any prohibited weapon) of the Arms Act.
The arrest operation was carried out by police inspector Yash Palve under the guidance of senior police inspector Satish Gaikwad of MIDC police station and deputy commissioner of police of Zone-10 Datta Nalawade.
