BMC will appoint consultants to help in traffic jams
Mumbai: BMC has issued tenders to appoint consultants who will give suggestions to the civic body to reduce traffic congestion in Mumbai. Consultants will be appointed under the access control project. Under this project, work will be done at nine junctions of Eastern Express Highway and Western Express Highway.
There are 2,000 km of roads in the city under the jurisdiction of BMC. The civic body will convert these routes into cement concrete (CC) roads in a phased manner. To date, BMC has converted approximately 900 km of routes into CC roads. More than 400 km of roads will follow the same process; However, the work has not started yet.

The main junctions in the city where traffic congestion is being witnessed on a daily basis include JVLR, Irla, Milan Subway and Vikhroli. To resolve this issue, BMC has decided to build underpasses and flyovers wherever required.
According to Municipal Corporation sources, underpasses will be constructed on Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road, Powai Junction and Chheda Junction. Under the access control project, road widening and underpass will be constructed from Sudhir Phadke flyover and near Vile Parle Hanuman Temple to Milan Subway. The source said that tenders for this work will be issued next month.
Additionally, U-turn flyovers will be constructed at Kanjurmarg for dumping ground trucks, Ghatkopar Junction and Bandra Kurla Complex.
