Ponmudi will boycott TNOU convocation
CHENNAI: Registering his protest over Governor RN Ravi not conferring an honorary doctorate on communist leader Shankaraiah for his contribution to the Indian freedom struggle, Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister K Ponmudi addressed the convocation ceremony of Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU). Have decided not to participate.
The minister has continued his symbolic protest after Madurai Kamarajar University took a similar stance of not attending the recently held convocation ceremony.
Governor RN Ravi was criticized by his opponents as he refused to confer an honorary doctorate on the communist leader.
Ponmudi reacted by boycotting the MKU convocation, saying that the Governor dislikes those who speak for social justice and economic equality. He then advised the Governor to ask someone who Shankaraiya was.
