Principal of Government Ayurvedic College arrested
Balangir: Professor Sudarshan Behera, the Principal of Govt. Ayurvedic College & Hospital in Balangir, has been apprehended by the Odisha Vigilance and subsequently presented before the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance in Bhubaneswar. The arrest is linked to allegations of possessing disproportionate assets (DA) beyond his verifiable income, for which he failed to provide satisfactory explanations.
The Odisha Vigilance initiated Bhubaneswar Vigilance PS Case No.32 on the 10th of November 2023, charging Behera under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(b) of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
A thorough search of his residence revealed significant movable and immovable assets, valued in crores, registered in the name of the Principal and his family members. The identified assets include:
- A G+3 residential building spanning approximately 4600 square feet, situated at Sakhigopal Block Chhak, PS-Satyabadi, Dist-Puri.
- A double-storeyed building located at Sriramchandrapur, Satyabadi, Dist-Puri.
- A building situated on plot No.1723/588, Khata No.1733/345 at Sorisiapada, Gop, Dist-Puri.
- 28 plots strategically positioned in prime areas of Bhubaneswar, Gop, Pipili, and Satyabadi within the Puri district.
- Gold jewelry weighing around 250 grams.
- Three four-wheelers (Honda City 5th Gen ZX, Mahindra Scorpio, and Toyota ETIOS Cross-G) and one two-wheeler, collectively valued at over Rs.32 lakhs.
Following a meticulous examination of the inventory and a comprehensive inquiry, it was determined that Behera’s income, expenditures, and assets exhibited a significant imbalance. The investigation revealed that he possessed disproportionate assets, exceeding his known sources of income by 113%.
The case is currently under active investigation, with authorities diligently pursuing further leads and evidence.
