‘…then we will commit suicide’, warned before PM Modi’s arrival
New Delhi: PM Modi is going to visit Jharkhand on 15th November. Meanwhile, on Saturday, tribal activists threatened to commit suicide if the PM did not make any announcement to allow recognition of Sarna religion. Salkhan Murmu, president of ‘Adivasi Sengel Abhiyan’ (ASA) said that the workers will fast from 10 am to 1 pm in Jharkhand and other states on that day in support of the demand.
Actually, on November 15, PM Modi will visit Ulihatu, the birthplace of tribal Loknayak in Khunti district. This day is also the foundation day of Jharkhand. The police administration has completed preparations in this regard.
According to the news agency, tribal organization president and former MP Murmu said that the threat has been issued by two ASA workers to commit suicide. He has taken this decision independently. We are hoping that the Prime Minister will make an announcement on our long standing demand to recognize the separate ‘Sarna’ religion. If he does not clarify the Centre’s stand on our demand, both the workers have decided to commit suicide in Ulihatu and Bokaro at 4 pm.
Let us tell you that ASA had organized a rally in Ranchi on November 8 to demand recognition of tribal Sarna religion from the Centre. The Center has declared November 15 as ‘Tribal Pride Day’ from 2021.
