Storm warning due to tropical cyclone
Suva: Fiji issued a typhoon warning on Monday as a tropical cyclone is expected to impact the island nation from Tuesday to Wednesday.
The Fiji Meteorological Service said the cyclone, with possible evacuation by Thursday, has prompted the weather office to issue a storm warning for the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, western and southern Viti Levu, Vatulele, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, Xinhua news agency reported. Meanwhile, typhoon warnings remain in effect for Vanua Levu, eastern Viti Levu and the western part of the Lomaiviti group.
The Meteorological Service said a warning of heavy rain had been issued across the country.
The National Disaster Management Office continues to urge the public to strictly follow the advisories issued by the concerned authorities.
Flooding has now been recorded in some parts of the country, with the office saying the public should stay away from flood water and flooded rivers, streams, roads and footpaths.
