Two youths arrested for extorting money from contractor

Gurugram: The Crime Branch has arrested two people for allegedly demanding extortion money of Rs 3 lakh from a Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG) contractor. The suspects have been identified as Naresh Pradhan and Ram Singh. The contractor lodged the complaint on Tuesday and said that he looks after the operation/maintenance of cleanliness/garbage etc. in MCG.
He alleged that Naresh Pradhan, Ram Singh and another person named Rajesh pressurized him and demanded Rs 25,000 monthly. He was told that if he could not fulfill their demands they would harm him. He told the police that the suspects had already extorted Rs 3 lakh from him and were now threatening him with dire consequences if he did not pay the amount pending since January.

Based on the complaint, the police registered a complaint under relevant sections of the IPC at Civil Lines Police Station, Gurugram. ACP (Crime) Varun Dahiya said, “Acting on a complaint, the police arrested Naresh Pradhan red-handed while extorting Rs 1.25 lakh. “Based on the interrogation of the accused, the police have also arrested his associate Ram Singh.” Police also recovered Rs 1.25 lakh and the vehicle used in the crime from the accused. The investigation of the case is going on, the third accused will also be arrested soon.
