Daughter-in-law murdered for dowry
Koderma : The body of a married woman was found under suspicious circumstances on Thursday morning in Gohal under Jaynagar police station area of Koderma district of Jharkhand. The allegation is that she was strangled to death for dowry. The deceased has been identified as 21-year-old Madhu Kumari (husband Santosh Das). The deceased’s parents, who reached the spot after receiving information about the incident, created a ruckus. The police have detained the mother-in-law and sister-in-law of the deceased, while the other accused are absconding. It is being told that just seven months after the marriage, the in-laws strangled the married woman to death over dowry amount. The deceased had given this information to her father over phone. As soon as they reached her in-laws’ house, they found her body in a suspicious condition. He called and informed the police. The police is investigating the matter.
According to the information regarding the incident, the deceased’s father Dashrath Das, resident of Chiglabar Koderma, has filed an application in Jaynagar police station saying that he had married his daughter Madhu with Santosh Das, resident of Gohal, as per Hindu customs on March 10, 2023. After marriage, her in-laws kept her properly for a few days. After this, husband Santosh Das (father late Bajan Das, mother-in-law Phulwa Devi, husband late Bajan Das, sister-in-law Sangeeta Devi, husband Bale Das), uncle father-in-law Jaynath Das (father late Kali Das), Dhaneshwar Das, Dhaneshwar’s wife and four five other people. Gohal residents started demanding Rs 2 lakh in cash as dowry. His daughter Madhu Kumari informed him about this. He went to his in-laws’ house and talked to his family, but his in-laws remained adamant.
The father of the deceased said that for the sake of his daughter’s happiness, he took a loan and gave Rs 20 thousand in cash to his in-laws. After this, these people started demanding Rs 1 lakh 80 thousand and said that Madhu will be allowed to go to her parents’ house only after the remaining amount is paid, otherwise. Will never let him go to his parents’ house. During this period, her in-laws never allowed her to come to her maternal home. When the dowry demand was not met, people started trying to murder her daughter by strangulation at 8 am on November 16 as part of a conspiracy. Madhu informed about this on phone. He immediately reached Gohal with some people and found that the daughter had died and the body was lying in the house.
As soon as he got the information, he immediately informed the police about the incident. Here, on receiving information about the incident, police station in-charge Umanath Singh, Sunil Paswan, Ashish Kumar Hansda, Pancham Tigga and police force personnel reached the spot. Police took the body in their custody and sent it to Sadar Hospital Koderma for post-mortem. The deceased’s father, Dashrath Das, has alleged that his in-laws have murdered his daughter for the sake of dowry. The police is investigating the case.
