Campaign against inflammable items in trains
New Delhi (ANI): After firecrackers were found in trains at various places, including New Delhi, Anand Vihar and Jabalpur stations, during the current festive season, the Railway Ministry has issued instructions to zonal railways to conduct a drive against it. Transportation of inflammable goods on the railway network, officials said.
To make train travel safe, Railways has urged passengers to be careful and not to carry or allow their co-passengers to carry inflammable objects while traveling in trains.
Officials said all zonal railways have launched an intensive awareness campaign for passengers.
Regular announcements are being made at railway stations, appealing not to carry inflammable and explosive items like firecrackers, gas cylinders, acid, petrol, kerosene etc. in passenger trains during train journey.
Zonal Railways has directed the concerned authorities to keep a strict vigil on the activities of passengers while traveling by train. Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel have been alerted. Baggage and parcel items are being thoroughly scanned before loading. Keeping the above in mind, ECOR has also prepared its machinery to prevent carrying of firecrackers in passenger trains. Carrying flammable items during train journey is strictly prohibited.
East Coast Railway has advised all its three divisions, i.e., Khurda Road, Sambalpur and Waltair to launch a special security drive to keep a strict vigil on carrying of inflammable items in trains for the safety of passengers during Diwali celebrations .
From October 18 to November 16, 2023, 619 checks were conducted in trains, 427 checks were conducted at stations and 182 checks were conducted at yards, pit lines, fueling points, etc.
Public address systems are also used at all stations to inform passengers about the dangers of carrying flammable items. Apart from this, along with distributing pamphlets, posters were also put up in various public movement areas.
Lease holders and their staff, parcel staff, pantry car staff, catering staff at stations, coolies/porters, OBHS staff and other outsourced staff along with passengers were also advised about the dangers of carrying inflammable items while traveling in trains. .
Altogether eight cases have been detected and eight people have also been arrested during this period. Firecrackers worth Rs 24350 (approximately) have also been seized. (ANI)
