Reviewed winter stocking preparations in Ladakh

Leh: With the Union Territory of Ladakh set to be cut off from the outside world due to heavy snowfall, Lieutenant Governor Brigadier (Retd) BD Mishra has reviewed the progress of winter stocking preparations and the tender process for helicopter services.

Mishra also highlighted the necessary measures for evacuation in case of emergency and the need to keep drinking water taps running during the upcoming winter, an official spokesperson said on Saturday.

Chairing a high-level meeting virtually on Friday, the LG asked whether adequate stocking of essential commodities has been done to ensure that it lasts till the reopening of the Srinagar-Leh and Manali-Leh national highways.

The spokesperson said heads of various government departments and representatives of oil companies briefed the meeting about the storage of essential commodities for the winter months.

He said that he also informed the LG about the supply of essential commodities to the nearest sub-divisions and blocks, especially in remote areas like Zanskar and Changthang, so that these essential commodities are available to the local residents after the snowfall.

The spokesperson said Mishra inquired about the installation of mobile towers in untouched areas of Ladakh and appointment of liaison officers to look after the situation of travelers stranded in Ladakh in winter.

He also inquired about the progress of distribution of pashmina baby shelters as well as distribution of fodder and milk replacer to the beneficiaries of Changthang, the spokesperson said.

He said Mishra directed his advisor to monitor and review the progress of storage of essential commodities on a weekly basis.

He also directed that there should be no theft of food supplies or damage to essential food supplies by snow and rodents, the spokesperson said, and asked the head of the department concerned to sensitize the staff to avoid such damage. Asked for.

While directing that telecommunication networks and drinking water taps should remain operational during the winter months, the LG has directed to prevent freezing of taps during the winter months for the ease and convenience of the public, especially those living in remote areas. Highlighted the need to take countermeasures. , the spokesperson said.
