Another accused arrested in Vizag espionage case
Visakhapatnam: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday arrested another accused in the Visakhapatnam espionage case, which pertains to the leak of classified defense information through the Pakistani ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence) spy network.
The accused, identified as Aman Salim Shaikh, was arrested from Mumbai. The central agency had conducted raids at two places – one in Mumbai and the other in Hojai, Assam.
Salim is the third person to be arrested in this case.
NIA has filed a chargesheet against four people, including two absconding Pakistani operatives.
It was found that Salim had activated the SIM cards which were being used by Pakistani intelligence officers involved in the racket.
According to an official release, the issue came to light in 2021 when the Counterintelligence Cell in Andhra Pradesh registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Official Secrets Act on January 12, 2021.
