Teacher’s punishment took the student
Jajpur, Odisha: A Class IV student of a government school in Odisha’s Jajpur district died on Tuesday when a teacher allegedly forced him to do sit-ups.
Rudra Narayan Sethi was a student of Surya Narayan Nodal Higher Primary School in Orli.
On Tuesday, the ten-year-old student was seen playing with four fellow students on the school premises during class time at 3 pm. A teacher noticed him and allegedly ordered him to do sit-ups as punishment for his actions.
However, Rudra collapsed and his parents, who are residents of Orli village in nearby Rasoolpur block, were immediately informed about the incident. He and the teacher were taken to the nearby community center and from there to the community health center and finally to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on Tuesday night, where doctors declared him brought dead.
When contacted, Rasoolpur block education officer (BEO) Nilambar Mishra said that they have not received any formal complaint yet.
“If we receive a formal complaint, we will initiate an investigation and take necessary action against whoever is found guilty,” he said.
Rasoolpur’s assistant block education officer Pravanjan Pati visited the school and started investigation into the incident.
