Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government on Sunday announced that the national-level Khelo India Youth Games will be held in Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai and Trichy from January 19, 2024 to January 31.
“Tamil Nadu is set to participate in the team sports of basketball, kabaddi, kho-kho, volleyball, hockey and football and thus, selection trials will be held in Chennai from November 30 to December 2. Around 5,000 athletes are expected to participate. It is expected that both male and female athletes will be selected to represent Tamil Nadu on the basis of their exceptional performances,” the statement issued by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu said.
“To be eligible for participation, athletes must be born on or after January 1, 2005. Aadhaar card or passport, Matriculate certificate (SSLC/X class), or issued at least five years earlier for the age verification process It is necessary to submit the certificate of birth done by the Municipal Corporation or Gram Panchayat on or before January 1, 2023. All eligible players are invited to participate in the selection trials.”
The selection trials for basketball and football will be held on December 1 and 2 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, Chennai.
The selection trials for Kabaddi and Kho-Kho will be held on November 30 and December 1 at the District Sports Complex, Nehru Park, Chennai.
The selection trials for volleyball and hockey will be held on November 30 and December 1 at the MRK Hockey Stadium in Chennai.
It is noteworthy that this year Silambam was included as a demo game in Khelo India Youth Games.
The selected athletes will receive appropriate training from the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu to enhance their skills and abilities in the respective sports disciplines.
