TANGEDCO asks MOP to clarify allocation of TN in KKNPP Unit 3
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) Chairman and Managing Director Rajesh Lakhani has asked the Union Energy Ministry Secretary to explore Tamil Nadu’s share in the allocation in the upcoming Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant Units 3, 4, 5 and 5. 6 with 1000 MW generation capacity each to ensure adequacy of clearance transmission system through the State network.
In a letter to the MOP secretary, Lakhani wanted the ministry to also indicate the allocation for TANGEDCO and the tariff for the four new nuclear units.
TANGEDCO has already sought allocation of 100 per cent power to Tamil Nadu from units 3 and 4 of KKNPP in July 2022.
In September 2022, the MoP said Tamil Nadu, being the home state, would be entitled to 50 per cent power from Units 3 and 4 as well as some share in 15 per cent unallocated power.
It also said that if any other component of the southern region refuses to take its share of the allocated power, higher allocation will be considered.
Tamil Nadu gets 1137 MW as its share from Units 1 and 2 of KKNPP.
Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) has said that KKNPP Unit 3 is proposed to be commissioned during December 2025 and Unit 4 during August 2026.
