Man dies in police station, judicial investigation continues
New Delhi: A man arrested in an alleged road rage and scuffle case died in police custody, a Delhi Police official said on Monday. He said that the matter is being judicially investigated as per procedure. The deceased has been identified as Suraj Prakash, a resident of Majlis Park in Adarsh Nagar, North West Delhi. According to the police, the beat staff of Adarsh Nagar police station was on night patrol in the early hours of Monday. Then he saw a fight taking place between people on the road leading to Jahangirpuri.
It turned out to be a case of road rage. Police called the emergency response vehicle (ERV) from Adarsh Nagar police station to the spot as the fighting did not stop despite the police presence. A police officer said, “Except three people, most of the people present at the spot fled. All three were taken to BJRM Hospital, Jahangirpuri for medical examination around 4 am.”
Among these, Suraj was treated at BJRM Hospital in Jahangirpuri. “After this, they were taken to the police station to be handed over to the emergency officer for further necessary action,” the officer said. The officer said, “In the meantime, Suraj’s condition deteriorated and he suddenly fell ill. He was again admitted to BJRM Hospital in Jahangirpuri, where he was declared brought dead. “A judicial inquiry into the matter is underway as per procedure.”
