Head coach Rahul Dravid on contract period with Team India
New Delhi: Head coach Rahul Dravid on Thursday said that he has not signed any papers regarding his contract extension period with Team India.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday announced the extension of the contracts of head coach Rahul Dravid and Team India’s support staff (senior men).
“As Rahul Dravid’s contract expires after the recently concluded ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, the BCCI has had meaningful discussions with him and unanimously agreed to extend his tenure,” the BCCI said in an official statement. “
However, the official statement from BCCI did not reveal the contract period of Dravid as well as the rest of the staff.
When Dravid was asked about the duration of his contract, he said, “It has been officially announced, I have not signed anything yet, let the papers come officially from BCCI.”
Batting coach Vikram Rathod, fielding coach T Dilip and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey will continue their tenure with Team India as BCCI has also extended the contracts of Team India’s support staff.
Dravid’s second stint with Team India will be a tour of South Africa from December 10, which will consist of three ODIs and T20s each and two Tests. The red-ball leg will start from December 26.
This will be followed by a five-match Test series against England at home before the ICC T20 World Cup in West Indies/USA in June.
Dravid replaced Ravi Shastri after a disappointing ICC T20 World Cup campaign in 2021, which saw India exit the Super 12 stage. He was appointed for a two-year tenure, which ended with India finishing runners-up in the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup on home soil.
After the contract extension announcement, Dravid said, “The last two years with Team India have been absolutely memorable. Together, we have seen the ups and downs and throughout this journey, the support and camaraderie within the group has been phenomenal.” I’m really proud of the culture we’ve established in the dressing room. It is a culture that remains resilient, whether in moments of triumph or adversity. The skill and talent that our team has is phenomenal, and what we have emphasized is to follow the correct process and stick to our preparations, which has had a direct impact on the overall result.”
“I thank the BCCI and the office-bearers for believing in me, supporting my vision and providing support during this period. The demands of this role require significant time away from home, and I deeply appreciate the sacrifices and support of my family. His behind-the-scenes role has been invaluable. As we take on new challenges after the World Cup, we are committed to achieving excellence.”
