United Kisan Morcha demands dismissal of Minister JP Dalal
New Delhi. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Thursday condemned Haryana Agriculture Minister JP Dalal’s controversial remarks against farmer leaders who had participated in the agitation against the now repealed farm laws, and demanded that he be sacked.
SKM and central trade unions passed a resolution at a meeting in Haryana’s Panchkula asking the minister to resign and apologize for his comments, which are “unacceptable for a person holding a constitutional post”.
The Morcha said in a statement, “SKM strongly condemns the highly indecent statements… His comments are aimed not only at humiliating the workers of the farmers’ movement, but further humiliating the dignity of women as a whole.”
“Such comments reflect a dying feudal culture, which is not acceptable in a modern civilized society. The video of his speech going viral has drawn a sharp reaction in Haryana and neighboring states, which has been reflected in widespread angry protests over the past two days.”
SKM demanded that the Haryana Chief Minister dismiss Dalal from the Cabinet with immediate effect and direct him to apologize to the farming community as well as the women of Haryana.
SKM is the umbrella body under which farmer organizations organized their protests against the three farm laws at Delhi borders in 2020-21. A video of Dalal purportedly making the remarks at an event in Bhiwani district on Sunday went viral on social media on Wednesday. But came forward.
In the video, the broker is heard saying in Hindi, “Some people used to sit here…some had criminal cases pending against them…some did wrong things. The wives of some had eloped with others… Even their wives would not listen to them and yet they were taking responsibility for the entire farming community.”
When contacted on phone, the broker had said on Wednesday, “I never say anything against farmers.”
