Fire in the building, two burnt bodies recovered
Mumbai: Charred remains of two people were recovered after a fire broke out in a building in Mumbai’s Girgaum Chowpatty area on Saturday night. The officers provided this information. Officials said the bodies of a man and a woman were found when fire service personnel were extinguishing the level-2 fire in the building at around 9.32 pm on Saturday.
“Two burnt bodies were seen from the third floor of the building, one from the bedroom and the other from the bathroom,” an official told ANI.
A total of five lines have been put into operation, two lines from the staircase, one from the adjacent building on the north side, one from the adjacent building on the south side and one high pressure line from Angus Staircase, the official said. Earlier, three people were rescued from the same building in Girgaum Chowpatty area of Mumbai.
Brihanmumbai Mumbai Corporation (BMC) earlier issued a statement on the incident saying, “A level-2 fire broke out in Gomti Bhawan building on Rangnekar Road in Girgaon Chowpatty on Saturday.”
Shortly after receiving information about the fire, 10 fire tenders reached the spot and launched an operation to extinguish the fire.
BMC officials said the fire that broke out on the third and fourth floors of the building has been brought under control. An official said the cause of the fire was still being ascertained. Fire service personnel said an ambulance was kept on standby at the spot and work to extinguish the fire was underway.
