33 flights diverted from Chennai to Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Thirty-three flights from Chennai were redirected to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on Monday as the cyclonic storm caused continuous heavy rains in Chennai and adjoining districts. Officials of Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), which manages KIA, reported diversion of both domestic and international flights operated by IndiGo, SpiceJet, Etihad, Lufthansa and Gulf Air from Chennai.

Due to the current situation many flights have been canceled in Chennai. Due to severe weather conditions, Chennai Airport has temporarily suspended arrival and departure operations till 11 pm on Monday night. A total of 70 flights, including both arrivals and departures, were canceled due to continuous heavy rain.
A BIAL official said, “Many flights have been diverted to KIA from Chennai. Chennai airport has also announced that they will remain closed for arrival operations for a specific period. Not just Chennai, even That Tirupati, Visakhapatnam also all these areas are facing problems due to weather.” conditions. Therefore, there are many delays and cancellations as well. We advise passengers to check the status of their respective flights and as of now, 33 flights diverted from Chennai have landed at KIA.”
