Young man commits suicide, bookie of Mahadev app arrested
Varanasi. The wanted bookie has been arrested by the police of Lohta police station of Commissionerate on the charges of torturing a young man and instigating him to commit suicide. Police have recovered two mobile phones from the arrested accused Saurabh Sharan, resident of Madhauli under Manduadih police station. Also, Rs 78 lakh deposited in the bank have been frozen. The incident was disclosed by DCP Varuna Zone Amit Kumar on Wednesday.
According to the case, Shilpi Devi, a resident of Koruta of Lohta police station area, had lodged a complaint with the police that her husband Ranvijay Singh was often harassed by Saurabh Sharan, a bookie. Due to which her husband committed suicide by hanging himself in his shop late on Sunday night. On the complaint of the woman, the police had registered a case under various sections including instigating murder. The police have now arrested the accused and are taking necessary legal action against him.
DCP Varuna Zone Amit Kumar said that a person Ranvijay Singh had hanged himself on Sunday. His wife had lodged a complaint in this regard and also submitted a suicide note. When it was investigated, there were transactions and some cash transactions in the bank. After this, the said accused was arrested and the money deposited in his bank account, about Rs 8 lakh, was seized.
DCP said that betting was going on through Mahadev app and other apps. Police is preparing to take action on this. Wherever such complaint is received, action will be taken. It is noteworthy that betting is increasing very fast in Varanasi. Former IPS Amitabh Thakur had written a letter to the Police Commissioner for this on Tuesday itself. Regarding which he had also sent audio recording of an alleged journalist and a lawyer.
