Cyclone Michong: Rajnath Singh to visit Chennai to assess flood situation
New Delhi: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will visit Chennai on Thursday to assess the flood situation in the state and hold a meeting with Chief Minister MK Stalin, sources said.
Singh, who is traveling to Chennai as a representative of the Central Government, will conduct an aerial survey of the flood affected areas.
Apart from holding a meeting with the Chief Minister, the Defense Minister will visit Chennai to see the damage caused by the recent floods, sources said.
There is also news that Union Minister of State L Murugan and Minister Thangam Thenarasu will also be with Rajnath.
Chennai residents on Wednesday grappled with suspended water and power supply in several areas and its suburbs, two days after Cyclone Michong wreaked havoc in the metropolis and neighboring districts, even as civic agency personnel were involved in relief and rehabilitation efforts.
The state government said power has been cut off in some areas as a “precautionary measure” due to cables being submerged in water, while all efforts are being made to restore normalcy.
