A couple was beaten to death in UP’s Etah over a love affair.

Uttar Pradesh: Police said a 20-year-old woman and her lover were beaten to death by her family members after they were found together at her home in Etah district on Sunday. SSP Shyam Narayan Singh said some of the woman’s family members have been detained for questioning in connection with the double murder in Garhiya Suhagpur village.

The deceased have been identified as Shivani (20), daughter of Ashok, and her lover Deepak (25), son of Radheshyam. Both belonged to the same village and community. According to police, Deepak went to meet Shivani at her home around 8:30 pm. The woman’s family allegedly found them in an “objectionable” position on the terrace.

Police said the angry family members allegedly attacked the couple. Shivani died on the spot, while Deepak succumbed to his injuries at the district hospital.

Local SHO Ritesh Thakur said no complaints have been filed yet.

The bodies have been sent to Etah Medical College for post-mortem.

SSP Singh visited the medical college and the crime scene, and a forensic team has been called in to collect evidence.

Police said a large force has been deployed in the village as a precautionary measure.
