The accident occurred on the national highway from Vellakovil to Karur when a car and a lorry collided violently. The impact was so severe that both vehicles lost control and crashed into a nearby police checkpoint.
The incident occurred near Kurukkathi, located on the border of Tirupur and Karur districts. A police checkpoint is located along the national highway in this area, used for vehicle inspections.
According to eyewitnesses, the policemen were on their regular duty in the morning when a speeding car collided with an oncoming lorry. After the collision, both vehicles lost control and crashed directly into the police checkpoint. The accident was so sudden that no one had time to react.
