A man was lured to Fafadih and cheated out of 2 crore rupees.
Raipur: An Odisha-based businessman was defrauded of Rs 2 crore after being lured with the promise of huge profits on investments in the stock market. The businessman joined a group on a messaging platform where he started receiving information related to stock market investments.
The businessman initially invested Rs 1 lakh. In return, he received a profit of Rs 13 lakh. This made him fall for the scam. The fraudsters then told him that an investment of Rs 2 crore would yield a profit of Rs 40 lakh in five days. Enticed by this offer, the businessman invested Rs 2 crore. He was called to Raipur, where the money was collected from him in cash near Fafadih. The businessman left after handing over the money. However, he neither received the promised profit nor his principal amount back. Based on the businessman’s complaint, the police registered a case of fraud after conducting an investigation.
The police said that Nemichand Jain, a resident of Odisha, runs a large business. A few months ago, Nemichand received a link on his mobile phone. Upon opening it, he joined a Telegram group. Messages related to investments in Tata Consultancy Services started appearing in the group. Some people also started posting messages about earning profits of lakhs and crores of rupees.
