A speeding Mercedes crushed a biker in Bhubaneswar.
Bhubaneswar: A painful road accident occurred late Monday night in Odisha’s capital Bhubaneswar. A motorcyclist died after being hit by a speeding Mercedes-Benz car near Shastri Nagar Square. The accident was so severe that the motorcycle was completely damaged. The crowd that reached the spot after the incident caught the car driver and also surrounded the woman present with him.
According to the information, this accident happened at around 10:30 pm on Monday night in Shastri Nagar Square area. It is being told that a Mercedes-Benz car coming at a high speed collided with a motorcycle going from the front. The collision was so severe that the bike flew away and the bike rider got seriously injured and fell on the road.
After the accident, there was chaos among the people present nearby. Local people immediately reached the spot and tried to pick up the injured motorcyclist from the road and take him to the hospital for treatment. With the help of people, the injured person was taken to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, where doctors declared him dead after examination.
As soon as information about the incident was received, the police also reached the spot. Police inspected the accident site and collected evidence related to the accident. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accident may have occurred due to high speed and careless driving. However, the police is investigating to find out the actual cause of the accident.
After the accident the car driver tried to escape from the spot. It is being told that after the accident, the driver was trying to leave with the car, but the people present nearby stopped him. The angry mob surrounded the car driver and the woman in the car.
According to eyewitnesses, there was a lot of anger among the people regarding the accident. Some people also tried to attack the driver and the woman. Seeing the situation worsening, Kharavela Nagar police station reached the spot, took both of them out safely from the crowd and took them with them to the police station.
The police have also taken the car into their custody. Now the police is interrogating the driver and trying to find out who was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident. Also, the speed of the car, condition of the driver and other technical aspects are being examined.
Police officials say that action will be taken in the matter as per rules. The process of identifying the deceased motorcyclist and informing his family has also been started. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
After this incident, once again questions have started being raised regarding speeding vehicles and road safety in the city. Local people say that there is a need to strictly monitor those driving at high speed at major intersections and busy areas, so that such accidents can be prevented.
