AAP complains to EC against Sukhbir Badal
Punjab: AAP files complaint with Election Commission against SAD president Sukhbir Badal for violating ECI directions regarding political campaign.
This complaint was lodged by senior AAP leader and Finance Minister Harpal Cheema. In a letter addressed to the ECI and the Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab, the AAP leader said Badal used a child for his campaign during his Save Punjab Yatra.
The letter said that on April 6, Badal violated the Election Commission’s instructions during his Punjab Bachao Yatra in Raikot when he made a child chant “Shiromani Akali Dal Zindabad and vote for Akali Dal”. The party also submitted videographic evidence of the incident.
It further said that this activity is also in violation of the order of the Bombay High Court judgement, which had stressed the need to ensure that political parties do not allow the participation of minor children in any election-related activities. All political parties and candidates are required to ensure strict compliance with the Child Labor (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 as amended by the Child Labor (Prohibition and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2016. But Badal not only violated ECI instructions. , but it also has laws that prohibit using children for political activities.
