ABVP seeks revival of waiting list provision in selection lists

Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Jammu Kashmir, has demanded revival of the provision of waiting list for fairness, transparency and inclusivity in the selection processes conducted by the Jammu Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) and the Jammu Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB ).
“ABVP Jammu Kashmir firmly believes that reinstating the waiting list criteria is imperative to ensure equal opportunities for all deserving candidates and to uphold the principles of justice and meritocracy,” said Akshi Billowria, ABVP J&K State Secretary, while addressing a press conference, here today. .
Maintaining that the waiting list system has long been a standard practice in recruitment processes, providing a backup pool of qualified candidates in case vacancies arise or selected candidates decline offers, she stressed that it acts as a safety net, ensuring that vacancies are filled efficiently without the need for conducting new recruitment processes.
However, she added, the decision to abolish this crucial aspect from the selection processes has raised serious apprehensions among aspirants and stakeholders. “Without it, there is a risk of prolonging the process unnecessarily, causing inconvenience to both recruiters and candidates. Furthermore, the removal of the waiting list can also result in missed opportunities for deserving candidates who narrowly missed the initial selection cutoff. These candidates, despite meeting the requisite qualifications and clearing the selection criteria, may lose out on employment prospects simply because there is no provision for their inclusion in case of vacancies. This not only undermines the efforts of aspirants but also diminishes the efficiency and effectiveness of the entire selection process,” she explained.
The ABVP leader claimed that the waiting list also serves as a mechanism to promote diversity and representation within Government organizations.
“In light of these considerations, we call upon the authorities responsible for overseeing the recruitment processes at JKPSC and JKSSB to reconsider their decision and reinstate the waiting list criteria as this step is not only essential for safeguarding the interests of aspiring candidates but also for upholding the integrity and credibility of the recruitment processes,” said Akshi Billowria.
ABVP State Joint Secretary Sanak Shrivats and National Executive Council Member Chahat Anand were also present in the press conference.
