Action taken against 154 vehicles within 3 hours, fine of Rs 15 lakh imposed

Raipur. In view of the road accidents occurring in the city due to drunken driving at night, hitting the divider or colliding with other vehicles, on the instructions of Mr. Vikas Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic and Protocol, to take strict action against drivers driving under the influence of alcohol, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Vivek Shukla and under the guidance of Daulat Ram Porte, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic/Protocol, under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner of Police Satish Thakur, Surendra Sai Paikra, Ramesh Yerewar, Gurjeet Singh and Seema Ahirwar, in the presence of all the traffic station in-charges, a team of officers/employees was formed and checking points were set up by placing stoppers at 08 places in the city in front of Telibandha police station, Bhatagaon Chowk, Jaistambh Chowk, Fafaadih Chowk, in front of Khamtarai police station, Tatibandh Chowk, Pachpedinaaka Chowk, in front of Pandri police station.

At all checkpoints, officers conducted a three-hour intensive checking campaign with breathalyzer machines, from 10:00 pm to 1:00 am. During the checking, drivers were tested for alcohol consumption using breathalyzers.

During the checking, 154 drivers were found driving under the influence of alcohol, and action was taken against them by seizing their vehicles under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act. The vehicles were parked for security at the Traffic Headquarters premises and traffic police stations. The vehicles seized include 64 cars, 65 motorcycles, 8 trucks, 12 Tata S pickups, 1 Bolero, 2 Mazda, 1 tractor, and 1 e-rickshaw. The cases taken action against will be presented in court on working days, where the Honorable Court imposes a minimum fine of ₹10,000 per case for driving under the influence of alcohol.

This campaign was launched to control road accidents and ensure safety during the Holi festival. Under the direction of Police Commissioner Dr. Sanjeev Shukla and the guidance of Vikas Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic and Protocol, strict action will be taken against those who drive after consuming alcohol by setting up checking points at different locations in the coming days, especially at night.
