MP: Despite the cold in Khandwa, 40 thousand devotees visited Omkareshwar.
Madhya Pradesh: Despite inclement weather, nearly 40,000 devotees took a holy dip in Omkareshwar. Khandwa experienced a dramatic change in the weather within a single day. Dense fog enveloped the area until Sunday afternoon, followed by cold winds at night. By Monday morning, the fog had cleared, and the sun came out after 10 a.m., though cold winds continued to blow. At the Omkareshwar pilgrimage site, devotees gathered on the banks of the Narmada River since morning, braving the freezing cold and dense fog. They bathed in the river and visited temples to worship Omkar Maharaj.
The prolonged fog and cloudy weather have severely impacted agriculture. Farmers report that onion, wheat, chickpea, and watermelon crops have suffered up to 30% damage. Caterpillars and mosquitoes are attacking wheat and chickpea fields, causing the crops to turn yellow. Jai Patel, district secretary of the Joint Farmers Organization, Khandwa, warned that insect damage will increase the cost of farming.
Weather experts predict dense fog will persist due to the northern snowfall. Daytime temperatures will range from 24-28 degrees Celsius, while nighttime temperatures will drop by 5-9 degrees. On Sunday, the daytime temperature was 22.5 degrees Celsius and the nighttime temperature was 9 degrees Celsius, leaving a difference of only 13.5 degrees between day and night temperatures.
