Actor Raj Kumar Rao will be the national icon of the Election Commission

New Delhi: Bollywood actor Raj Kumar Rao will be a prominent face in the upcoming elections. The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday announced that it will appoint actor Raj Kumar Rao as its national icon for the upcoming elections. The Election Commission said a formal ceremony would take place on Thursday. The Election Commission of India (ECI) appoints national icons to encourage voter participation in the electoral process.

On September 3, the Election Commission of India had appointed legendary cricketer and Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar as its national icon. An MoU for three years was signed with Tendulkar at a ceremony in September in the presence of Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, Election Commissioners Arun Chandra Pandey and Arun Goyal. Under the three-year agreement, Tendulkar will spread voter awareness. The poll panel is conducting this exercise ahead of the assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
