Additional security needed at vote counting centres: Thaweka

Tamil Nadu: Political and administrative activities have intensified in Tamil Nadu regarding the counting of votes for the Assembly elections. Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Vetrikshakham (TAVEKA) has demanded that the Election Commission provide additional security at counting centers during the counting of votes on May 4th. Votes for the state’s 234 Assembly seats will be counted on this day.
TAVEKA Joint General Secretary C.T.R. Nirmalkumar and Deputy General Secretary Rajmohan met with Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik at the Chennai Secretariat on Wednesday. They submitted a memorandum and made several important demands. The organization placed particular emphasis on ensuring a transparent and secure counting process.
Representatives told the media that they requested the Chief Electoral Officer to maintain a complete and accurate record of postal ballots. They also demanded that all postal votes be digitally stored so they can be verified later. They also demanded that the counting process be videotaped and a copy be made available to the concerned parties after the results are declared.
TAVEKA made another important demand, stating that all postal ballots should be counted before the counting of EVM votes begins, to avoid any discrepancies in the process.
Furthermore, the organization expressed concern about the security of the counting process, stating that some political parties are likely to create chaos on counting day. Therefore, they demanded that not only the state police but also central security forces be deployed at the counting centers to ensure a peaceful and fair process.
The representatives also stated that Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik has assured them that all their legitimate demands will be considered and necessary steps will be taken.
Meanwhile, preparations for the counting of votes in the state are in the final stages, and the administration is continuously reviewing the security arrangements. The Election Commission is ensuring that the counting process is conducted in a completely transparent and secure environment.
Political parties in Tamil Nadu are increasingly active in the run-up to the vote count, and all parties are working on their respective strategies for the outcome. The administration’s primary focus is ensuring a peaceful declaration of results.
