Advocate General resigned from the post
Kolkata. Advocate General of West Bengal S. N. Mukhopadhyay suddenly resigned from his post on Friday. Mukhopadhyay is currently abroad. Sources in the Governor’s House said he submitted his resignation through email to Governor C.V. Sent to Ananda Bose’s office. This development comes after the West Bengal government’s decision two days ago to appoint Debashish Roy in place of current public prosecutor Shashwatgopal Mukhopadhyay in the Calcutta High Court.
The then public prosecutor was replaced after serving in the post for six years. Two consecutive developments created a stir in legal circles in the state. Both the cases come at a time when the state government has faced consecutive setbacks in the Calcutta High Court on various matters. Speculation has intensified regarding who will be the new Advocate General in place of Mukhopadhyay. There are rumors that Kishore Dutta, who was the advocate general before Mukhopadhyay before being replaced after the 2021 assembly elections, may return.
