After ‘RRR’, ‘Baahubali’, Vijayendra Prasad wrote a book on Lachit Barphukan

New Delhi (IANS) | The story of 17th century warrior Lachit Barphukan has been brought to life by ‘RRR’ screenwriter, film director and Rajya Sabha MP Vijayendra Prasad in ‘Brahmaputra: The Ahom Sun Rises (Book 1)’ after his story was revived by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. are brought alive in a novel named This book by Vijayendra Prasad, screenwriter of many blockbuster films and father of SS Rajamouli, is releasing on May 30 by HarperCollins Publishers India. He enlisted the help of former Coast Guard officer and detective fiction writer Kulpreet Yadav to write it.

This mix of action and romance begins with Lachit falling in love with Princess Padmini, daughter of Swargadeo Jayadhwaj Singha, the ruler of the Ahom Kingdom. When Raja comes to know about their romance and banishes Lachit from the capital Jorhat.

A few days later the Ahom capital is attacked by Aurangzeb’s army and the king is forced to sign a peace treaty. He cedes some control of his kingdom to the Mughals. Lachit and his best friend Prince Chakradhwaj find the terms of the treaty humiliating.

After a few days, his troubles increase. The prince of a kingdom loyal to the Ahoms attacks Jorhat by misguiding other petty rulers. Lachit and Prince Chakradhwaj guard the capital. This battle has the power to change the future of the Ahom kingdom forever.

Can Lachit, Prince Chakradhwaj and Princess Padmini restore the honor of the Ahoms by defeating the rebels and freeing them from the clutches of the Mughals? This is the gist of the story from the author who has won multiple awards for two ‘Baahubali’ films besides ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ and ‘Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi’.

Prasad’s aide, Kulpreet Yadav, a Naval Officer Academy graduate, served for two decades as a uniformed officer and successfully commanded three ships in his career.

Since his retirement from the Indian Coast Guard in 2014, he has written books in various genres such as espionage, military history and true crime. He lives in Mumbai and his latest is The Battle of Rejang La (Penguin, 2021).
