AIADMK chief Palaniswami’s statement on power cuts in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu: AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has appealed to the state government to take immediate and effective action to address the increasing power outages in Tamil Nadu. In a statement issued on Sunday, he said that frequent power outages in many parts of the state are causing inconvenience to the general public and disrupting normal life.

Palaniswami stated that during the AIADMK regime, necessary steps were taken in a timely manner to increase production capacity to meet the growing demand for electricity. He claimed that special attention was paid to increasing production at wind, solar, and thermal power plants. He also claimed that supply was balanced by purchasing power from the central government and private power generating companies under short-term contracts.

He criticized the current government, saying that the state’s “unstable and reckless policies” have led to a severe power shortage. According to Palaniswami, this situation has severely disrupted people’s daily routines, and many areas are experiencing frequent power outages during the night.

He also stated that the situation is more serious in areas like Chennai and Puducherry, where people are facing frequent power cuts. He alleged that in many places, people have taken to the streets to protest and are gheraoing electricity department offices.

The AIADMK leader said that unannounced power cuts have also adversely affected small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The disruption in industrial production capacity is hampering economic activity, negatively impacting both employment and business.

Palaniswamy demanded that the state government take concrete steps to immediately improve the power supply system and present a clear plan to control the situation. He stated that providing relief to the public is the government’s primary responsibility, and any delay in this regard is unacceptable.

He also alleged that the government is not providing accurate information to the public and is not taking the power crisis seriously. According to him, if timely action is not taken, the situation could worsen.

Political analysts believe this statement is part of a growing political debate over the state’s power crisis. The coming days are likely to see more heated exchanges between the ruling party and the opposition on this issue.
