Air India fined Rs 10 lakh
New Delhi: The aviation regulator DGCA has fined Tata group airline Air India Rs 10 lakh for failing to adhere to passenger-centric regulations.
In May and September, DGCA conducted inspections at Delhi, Kochi, and Bengaluru airports to assess airlines’ compliance with rules regarding facilities and compensation for passengers. During these inspections, it was discovered that Air India did not meet the requirements outlined in the Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR). Consequently, a show cause notice was issued to Air India on November 3, requesting a response.
Despite Air India’s reply, it was found that they hadn’t fulfilled several CAR provisions. This included the failure to provide hotel accommodations for passengers affected by flight delays, inadequate training of ground personnel, neglect in compensating international business class passengers who were compelled to travel under CAR conditions, and the existence of non-functional seats, among other issues.
Due to these violations, DGCA imposed a financial penalty of Rs 10 lakh on Air India for its non-compliance with the regulations, as confirmed by an official statement.
