Akhilesh Yadav’s taunt – fairness suffocated in every election of UP

Lucknow (IANS). Samajwadi Party’s National President Akhilesh Yadav said that the Chief Minister is very concerned about the panchayat elections in remote West Bengal. Whereas, in every election held in UP under the patronage of the BJP, freedom and fairness were suffocated. Akhilesh Yadav said in one of his statements on Thursday that in the panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh, open robbery was done on the votes of the opposition. How can the coercion done by the BJP with the voters in these elections be ignored?

Akhilesh Yadav said that BJP has killed democracy in Uttar Pradesh. Here the government has hijacked democracy with police administration and money power. In the last six years, there was a lot of looting of votes in the elections of Uttar Pradesh Panchayat, Municipal bodies and block heads, district panchayat presidents. The candidates and their supporters were threatened. They were not allowed to vote. The nomination papers of the candidates were forcibly taken away. There was firing in the panchayat elections in UP during the BJP rule. Bombs were detonated. Ballot boxes were looted. The women’s saris were torn and the fight took place till bloodshed. Democracy has been tarnished by misuse of power by the BJP.

The SP chief said that the BJP is a serious threat to democracy and the Constitution. Bureaucracy has been politicized due to misuse of power. The candidates of the opposition parties are harassed in the elections. These people treat political opponents like enemies. The BJP is working with a sense of revenge.

Akhilesh Yadav said that the elections in the BJP government of Uttar Pradesh, which has been promoting democracy, have become mere shams.

It may be noted that on the heavy violence in the panchayat elections in West Bengal, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had said that there was neither violence nor rigging at a single place in the 760 municipal elections in the state. This is a standard and should be learned from. Taking a dig at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Yogi had said that only those who harm democracy the most are talking about democracy.
