Ranchi (IANS). Outrage erupted after a youth died in police custody at Barhi in Hazaribagh district on Tuesday. The youth was detained by the police on Monday on charges of theft in a house. After getting information about his death on Tuesday, people blocked the GT Road with the young man’s body for about an hour.
People allege that the youth died due to beating in police custody. It was told that local youth Mohammad Ashfaq was taken away by the police on charges of theft in Barhi’s Krishnapuri locality. He remained in police custody overnight. On Tuesday, the police took the young man to the hospital and left.
People allege that he died in the police station itself. The police later went away leaving his dead body. He was mercilessly beaten up in the police station. People protesting say that if the youth had really committed any crime, he should have been sent to jail. The police is shying away from saying anything in this regard.
