Allu Sirish Clarifies His Wedding Look

Entertainment: Allu Sirish recently responded to the trolling he faced on social media. He was subjected to this criticism for wearing jewelry during his wedding celebrations. Sirish clarified that his fashion choices were deliberate and aimed at challenging long-standing, outdated gender stereotypes.

Prior to the wedding and during the rituals, Sirish wore diamond and gold jewelry, and even had mehndi (henna) applied to his hands, featuring Naynika’s name. On the wedding day, he also sported traditional symbols associated with Lord Balaji—the Namam, Shankh (conch), and Chakra (discus)—adding a cultural and spiritual dimension to his look.

Responding to his critics, Sirish stated that rigid gender norms are a relatively modern concept. He explained that in earlier times, men also wore jewelry, and there was no strict segregation between products designated for men and those for women. He remarked, “Until about a hundred years ago, even perfumes were not categorized as ‘for men’ or ‘for women.’ Today, everything has been compartmentalized—blue for boys and pink for girls.”

Sirish noted that some people around him questioned his decision to wear jewelry. When asked why such an act was necessary, he replied that someone had to take the first step. According to him, if people never attempt to challenge such mindsets, society will continue to adhere to the same old, archaic rules decades from now.

The actor also pointed out that men are often afforded limited opportunities to experiment with fashion. Responding in a humorous vein to memes suggesting that he should wear a ‘Vaddanam’ (a gold waist belt), Sirish remarked that Telugu meme creators are incredibly creative. Although the Vaddanam is traditionally worn by women, he pointed out that Indian Maharajas and Mughal rulers historically adorned themselves with chokers and other elaborate jewelry.

He concluded by stating that the notion that chokers or similar ornaments are meant exclusively for women is largely influenced by Western thinking. Sirish emphasized that India possesses a rich tradition of men wearing jewelry, and the time has come for us to embrace these cultural styles while setting aside rigid gender-based boundaries.
