Amarnath Yatra 2026: Administration advises travel on registered date

Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has strictly advised pilgrims participating in the Amarnath Yatra to travel only on their registered dates. The administration states that traveling according to designated slots will facilitate crowd management and better enforce security. This advice has been issued to ensure the smooth conduct of this year’s pilgrimage and the safety of pilgrims.

Located in the South Kashmir Himalayas, the Amarnath Cave Temple is located at an altitude of approximately 3,880 meters above sea level. It is a natural cave temple, where the Shivalinga, which forms spontaneously from ice, is a major attraction for devotees every year. Millions of pilgrims from across the country undertake the arduous journey to attain the darshan of Lord Shiva.

This holy pilgrimage is undertaken via two major routes. The first is the traditional Nunwan-Pahalgam route, located in Anantnag district and is approximately 48 kilometers long. This route, despite being relatively longer, is considered more traditional. The second route is the Baltal-Paldal route, located in Ganderbal district and is approximately 14 kilometers long. This route is short but considered challenging due to its steep climb and difficult geographical conditions.

This year’s Amarnath Yatra began on Friday (July 3). With the start of the yatra, the first batches began their journey from both major base camps—Nunwan-Pahalgam and Baltal-Paldal. The administration has made arrangements for the controlled movement of pilgrims on both routes.

According to officials, this year the yatra will last for 57 days and continue until August 28. The administration has prepared a detailed management plan to ensure a constant flow of pilgrims during this long yatra.

Security has been given top priority during the yatra. Thousands of personnel from the police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and other paramilitary forces have been deployed along both routes. Security forces are monitoring, checking, and escorting the entire route.

Additionally, additional security arrangements have been made in sensitive areas to prevent any untoward incident. Control rooms have been set up along the pilgrimage routes, where the situation is being continuously monitored.

The administration states that the pilgrimage is being conducted keeping in mind the weather and geographical conditions. Due to the high Himalayan region, sudden weather changes are possible, so pilgrims have been advised to exercise caution and follow administrative instructions.

Medical facilities, relief camps, and emergency services have also been made available for pilgrims participating in the pilgrimage. Medical camps have been set up at regular intervals along both routes to provide immediate assistance in case of any health problems.

The administration has also clarified that the pilgrimage will be valid only for registered pilgrims. No one will be allowed to travel without registration or outside the scheduled date. This will help maintain a controlled and safe travel system.

Like every year, this year too, there is tremendous enthusiasm among pilgrims for the Amarnath Yatra. Lakhs of people visit this holy cave to visit the naturally formed ice Shivalinga. This pilgrimage is not only a symbol of religious faith, but also an example of collective discipline and order under difficult circumstances.

Overall, the administration has implemented extensive security and management arrangements for the 57-day Amarnath Yatra to ensure that pilgrims can complete their pilgrimage safely and smoothly.
