Amendment to Transgender Protection Bill: CM Opposes

Tamil Nadu: DMK leader and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has opposed the proposed amendments to the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill.
In a message of protest posted on his ‘X’ page regarding this matter, he stated that the proposed amendments to the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019, cannot be forcibly implemented without first hearing the views of those who will be affected by them.
This is a situation where members of the very community for whom the law was enacted—ostensibly for their protection—are themselves opposing it.
Rather than being imposed, this matter calls for deep deliberation. Chief Minister Stalin has urged the BJP-led Central Government to engage in dialogue with the transgender community and arrive at a genuine consensus with them.
The proposed amendments to the Transgender Persons Act, 2019, cannot be advanced without listening to the very individuals whose rights and lives will be directly impacted by them.
