Amit Shah took a dig at Congress’s stand on SC’s decision on Article 370.

New Delhi: Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday took a dig at the Congress over its stance of disagreeing with the Supreme Court’s decision on the manner in which Article 370 was removed from Jammu and Kashmir and said the opposition party will continue to lose elections like this. stand.

Responding to the debate in the Rajya Sabha on two bills related to Jammu and Kashmir, Amit Shah said it is an important day as the bills will be passed by Parliament on the day the Supreme Court upheld the abrogation of Article 370.

The Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023 and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Amendment) Bill, 2023 were passed by the Lok Sabha last week.

Targeting Congress, Amit Shah said that the opposition party has said that it does not agree with the way Article 370 has been removed.
He said that proper procedure and rules were followed while abrogating Article 370 in August 2019 and now the Supreme Court has also given its decision.

He said, “I cannot understand them, I have dignity.”
The Home Minister said that Article 370 led to separatism, which promoted terrorism.

He said that Congress should consider changing its stand. Shah said, “…or your numbers will further reduce. There will be a contest in 2024 (Lok Sabha elections), Modiji will become PM for the third time.”
Congress on Monday said that the Supreme Court’s decision in the cases related to abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution has decided many issues but has left open some issues which are also very important.

“Prima facie, we respectfully disagree with the manner in which Article 370 was abrogated. We reiterate the Congress Working Committee resolution of August 6, 2019 that Article 370 must be respected until it is strictly amended. Constitution of India,” Congress leader P Chidambaram said while addressing a joint press conference.

He said, “We are also disappointed that the Supreme Court has not decided on the question of dividing the state and reducing its status to two union territories. That question has been reserved for decision in some appropriate future case.”

“The Indian National Congress has always sought restoration of full statehood for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. We welcome the decision of the Supreme Court in this regard. Full statehood should be restored immediately. The aspirations of the people of Ladakh must and will be fulfilled,” he said.

Chidambaram said the party welcomes the Supreme Court’s direction to hold assembly elections. “However, we believe that elections should be held immediately and there is no reason to wait until September 2024. When elections are held, the people of Jammu and Kashmir will get an opportunity to express their views on the important questions that were debated.” The Honorable Supreme Court – an opportunity which has been denied to them so far,” Chidambaram said.

The Congress leader said that the Supreme Court’s decision runs into 476 pages and the party will study it carefully.
